is this book.
You know when things, things you've been saving for, fawning over, lovingly grazing with your itty bitty fingernail in stores, finally buying and owning and consuming; you know that feeling when such things finally, actually live up to all your expectations?
I'm on the slow train home from interning, edging forward on my seat, lapping up the words and my mouth's curling up as the scene builds to the point of ecstatic happiness (!) and i'm grinning my face off, and and cursing the bloody train for pulling into the station, now i have to bend an ear of the page, and leap up out of my seat, scurry out of the station into Dad's car, then race home, ricocheting through my bedroom door, landing my swivel chair, to flick on the lamp and read to my heart's desire.
Eggers as a writer is so funny, so charismatic, so wildly intelligent and engaging. His prose is clean and fresh and exhilarating, barrelling along at break-neck speed, frantic and desperate and inspiring, sky-scrapingly so, all at the same time. And so affecting. So POIGNANT. Oh God, the poignancy in Christopher and Toph's story!
And i havn't even finished it yet.
I love it when i fall in love with books.
