OH NO!! Breaking Bad up against Friday Night Lights! West Wing (no doubt will vanquish X-Files) pitted against The Wire! POSSIBLE (probable) Mad Men v Buffy?! My tv geekness faces so much inner turmoil!
Vulture, (my favourite pop culture + entertainment site, and online counterpart of New York Magazine) is doing a series the next two weeks where they debate and determine which tv show is the best drama of the last 25 years. In the last two-and-a-bit decades, TV moved into a realm previously solely occupied by great works of literature, matching the high class storytelling skills and tackling of weighty subject matter. The advent of HBO and other cable channels allowed that element of risk and creativity, for writers and producers to create something INTELLECTUALLY REWARDING for their audience, and it's only served to raise the level of the entire playing field. You could say that TV today is in a golden age, with no signs of slowing down.
Anyway back to the drama derby, let's just say that I'll put my money on The Wire or even Breaking Bad taking out the top spot.
