Missed Connections

You know how MX has their column "Here's looking at you" for lovestruck commuters who spoke nary a word to the attractive human being they were eyeing the entire train trip, and wish they had? The submissions texted in daily to the rail newspaper run the gamut: from sweet and admiring to ribald, tacky or tongue-in-cheek. I know many people, on their weary commute home from work or school, will flick to that page first to read the love-struck declarations and messages of adoration- it's one of the nicest sections of a tabloid that leads with gossip spreads.

I found out on the weekend that New York City, that teeming megalopolis, also has its own Admirers noticeboard, in its own way. Craiglist has a 'Missed Connections' section (punny), and a children's illustrator, Sophie Blackall, (Yay, I LOVE children's books) set herself a project a while back to illustrate the stories on there. It's now available as a book! Her watercolour illustrations are whimsical and so lovely, and the whole project is SUPER CREATIVE AND SO SO CUTE. And this is a timely post for Valentines Day tomorrow. :)

Anyway enjoy the video of Sophie discussing her artworks below, (she became so well-know that the NYC transit corporation chose her as one of their chaperoned artists, where her illustrations are featured on the Subway and in cars for a year!)
